PC Support and Printers

A hardware and software standard, which is permanently adapted to the rapidly changing market, allows the group to offer centralized PC application services. Windows and Linux operating systems are installed with imaging or script methods and are updated automatically. Centrally managed Anti-Virus and Windows update servers help to protect PCs against viruses and other malware. Since software and data are kept on central servers PCs are easily replaceable in the case of hard- or software failures. Support for MacOS computers has been introduced in 2011.

The group maintains printers for high speed monochrome as well as color printouts on laser printers. In addition, we run two plotters for color posters and CAD figures up to size A0 (ink). A central print server based on the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) and Samba provides access to the public printers for Linux/MacOS and via "Point and Print" for Windows PCs. Supplies and printers are centrally managed and stored by the group.
