Promotion of Female Researchers, Career Development and Mentoring

Our institute - like the Max Planck Society - has committed itself to the promotion of excellent women in science. We actively support the MPG-W3 program to promote outstanding female scientists in management positions and offer extensions to temporary employment contracts during pregnancy and childbirth for women scientists. Our female scientists are taking part in the MPG seminar program for career advancement "Sign up! Careerbuilding". In addition, the institute has recently launched a new fellowship program (Elisabeth Bauer fellowship) for attracting excellent female scientists at the postdoctoral level (see here for more information).

The Max Planck Society has established a mentoring program for its young female scientists - from diploma student to senior scientist - which offers support opportunities for every level of qualification: the Minerva-FemmeNet.

The Minerva Fast Track pilot project of the Chemical-Physics-Technical Section gives excellent female scientists the opportunity to plan their long-term career after their doctoral thesis. Immediately after the dissertation or after the first postdoctoral period, funding is given for a maximum of three years with the aim of applying for a free-floating Max Planck Research Group.

The Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard Foundation supports talented young female doctoral students with own children in the field of science and medicine.

The MPG uses the AcademiaNet: the database presents portraits of excellent female scientists from all disciplines, making women more visible. It can be used by research institutes and research panels, journalists and conference organizers, as well as for networking women among themselves.
