Welcome to theHigh Pressure Group |
|
The High Pressure Group at the MPI/FKF (headed by Karl Syassen)
performs research in the effects of hydrostatic pressure on
structural, lattice dynamical, and electronic properties of
crystalline solids and their high pressure phases.
The primary experimental methods are low-temperature optical spectroscopies (Raman, photoluminescence, absorption, reflection) and x-ray diffraction (at synchrotrons and with laboratory setups). Materials currently under investigation are semiconductors and their heterostructures, transition metal compounds including superconducting cuprates, inorganic molecular and low-dimensional solids, and intermetallic rare earth compounds. The laboratory facilities for optical spectroscopy and x-ray diffraction at high pressures are also used by other scientific groups (in-house and external). Furthermore, pressure experiments in other research groups are supported through design and maintenance of pressure equipment. |
