Full 3D Simulation of aSNOM Imaging Process
The multiple multipole (MMP) technique is a particular numerical method that allows the evaluation of complex, multiscale models. It is particularly well suited for aSNOM modelling, since it allows feature as sharp as a few nanometer on objects as large as microns. In addition, one obtains at once the nearfield zone as well as the farfield, which is, of course, where real detectors operate. It is even possible to include the effects of modulation (due to mechanical probe motion) and demodulation (by simulating lock-in detection of the electrical signal), albeit at the price of repeatedly simulating many slightly different scenarios.
