In memory of Peter Wyder
On July 30, 2024, at the age of 90,Professor Dr. Peter R. Wyder passed away. He was Emeritus Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart.
The Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research mourns the loss of a highly esteemed physicist.
Peter R. Wyder's scientific career with the Max Planck Society began in 1984, when he was appointed as a Scientific Member of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research and as the Head of its branch - the High Field Magnet Laboratory in Grenoble. At that time, he had already earned an excellent reputation and was considered a versatile, inventive, and internationally recognized solid-state physicist. His outstanding work in the field of experimental physics of metals, particularly on the issue of electron transport at low temperatures and under the influence of magnetic fields, significantly influenced this branch of research. His achievements received great recognition in the scientific community and laid the foundation for the prominent position of our High Field Magnet Laboratory. It is primarily thanks to Peter R. Wyder that under his leadership, it became a place of great attraction for the best young scientists in this field.
The Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research bids farewell to Peter R. Wyder with gratitude and will honor his memory.
