Minerva Cup 2025 – Rain, Rivalry, and Roaring Fans
This year’s Minerva Cup once again brought together players and fans from the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems for a day full of soccer, passion, and camaraderie.
Played in a round robin format, the four teams gave it their all on the pitch of TSV Jahn Büsnau, right next to our institutes. The morning started with cloudy skies, but after the lunch break, heavy rain swept across the field, cutting the tournament short. Still, nothing could dampen the spirit of the players and fans.
And what a crowd it was! Supporters came armed with signs, horns, shakers, and all sorts of noise-makers, giving the matches a stadium-like atmosphere. Their energy made the tournament unforgettable.
Despite the weather, the games were fierce and competitive, showcasing both skill and team spirit. After the final whistle, the rankings stood as follows:
Lotschester United
VFB Mixed
Troubleshooters
Meanfielders
The trophies were awarded in a cheerful ceremony:
Champion – Minerva Cup 2025: Lotschester United
Best Support 2025: Troubleshooters
Top Goalscorer: VFB Mixed
Best Goalkeeper: VFB Mixed – Fabian Felden
The Minerva Cup was once again a highlight of our community life: full of joy, competition, and togetherness.
A huge thank you goes to Duc Hien Nguyen, who organized this fantastic event!
