International Workshop on New Insights into Quantum Materials

July 27, 2026

From July 15 to 17, 2026, the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research (MPI-FKF) hosted the International Workshop on New Insights into Quantum Materials.
The workshop was organized by Prof. Dirk Manske, research group leader in the department of Walter Metzner at MPI-FKF and associate professor at Freie Universität Berlin.

The workshop was conceived as a satellite event of the larger Materials and Mechanisms of Superconductivity (M2S) conference, which took place at the Liederhalle in Stuttgart from July 19 to 24. While benefiting from the momentum created by such a big scientific event in the city, the workshop was not surely second to it both in terms of quality and of the high profile of the scientific program presented.

Around 100 participants from around the world attended the event and the scientific program covered a broad range of topics.

The event brought together around 100 participants from all over the world for three days of scientific exchange and discussion. The talks covered a broad range of topics, from nickelates and cuprates to quantum magnetism and other fascinating phenomena, such as the physics of the pseudogap and unconventional superconductivity. There was also room to discuss some of emerging areas that have attracted increasing interest in recent years, such as quantum geometry and non-equilibrium physics.

It was encouraging to see how active a role the MPI-FKF researchers played in organizing and participating in the workshop, contributing to a lively and stimulating scientific atmosphere. The event provided a valuable opportunity for the quantum materials community to exchange ideas, discuss recent developments and foster new connections.
