On 27 June, the MPI FKF took part in the Stuttgart Science Festival with its event "Quantum at Karls", hosted at the Karls-Gymnasium. Throughout the afternoon, visitors enjoyed a wide range of activities, from science slams and hands-on workshops to demonstrations of superconducting levitating trains.

We are honored to announce that Prof. Dr. Bettina V. Lotsch, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research and head of the Department of Nanochemistry, has been elected as a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. more

The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters has awarded the 2026 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience to Pablo Jarillo-Herrero — independent group leader at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research (MPI-FKF) — together with Eva Y. Andrei (Rutgers University) and Allan H. MacDonald (University of Texas at Austin). The three physicists share the prize "for foundational work that established the field of twistronics," and with it a gold medal and a one-million-dollar honorarium. more
