The Department has openings for research students (Diploma and PhD degree), postdoctoral researchers and visiting scientists.
Research in the Department of Nanoscale Science is focusing on understanding interactions and processes on the atomic and molecular scale. Novel methods for the characterisation and control of processes on the nanometer scale as well as tools to manipulate and assemble nanoobjects are developed. You will work with state-of-the-art experimental equipment on self-organization phenomena to fabricate quantum structures, build artificial structures atom-by-atom or molecule-by-molecule, study quantum aspects of the physical and chemical properties of nanostructures or measure forces between individual atoms and molecules. If you are a physicist, chemist or materials scientist with a university degree, and you like to explore own ideas in an interdisciplinary research team in a stimulating environment do not hesitate to contact Prof. Klaus Kern for further information.Diploma and PhD programs are offered in conjunction with the University of Konstanz and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).
