Open Positions
Spontaneous applications for PhDs or postdoctoral research stays are always welcome. Please send your application to Dr. J. Barrier, including the topic(s) you would like to work on.
Postdoctoral candidates are encouraged to apply for external fellowships. We are glad to support suitable candidates, from refining the project to the host-institution paperwork. Please contact us several months before the deadline. The project should be your own idea and fit within our research topics. PhD candidates can also apply directly to IMPRS-CMS or MPGC-QM. Undergraduates should apply through the Max-Planck-UBC-UTokyo Centre for Quantum Materials.

Postdoctoral fellowships
Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA-PF)
- Years after PhD: up to 8 years
- Mobility rule: not more than 12 months in the host country in the 3 years before the deadline
- Period of funding: 1 to 2 years
Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers
- Years after PhD: 4 years
- Mobility rule: less than 6 months in Germany
- Period of funding: up to 2 years
- Years after PhD: early-career postdocs
- Mobility rule: change of institution
- Period of funding: up to 2 years
Elisabeth Bauser Postdoctoral Fellowship (women only)
- Years after PhD: up to 2 years
- Period of funding: up to 2 years
Leopoldina Postdoc Scholarship
- Years after PhD: up to 7 years
- Mobility rule: for Austrian and Swiss researchers going to a host in Germany
- Years after PhD: no permanent position
- Mobility rule: employment at a German institution; not held every year
- Period of funding: up to 24 months (up to 115,000 EUR)
Branco Weiss Fellowship – Society in Science
- Years after PhD: up to 5 years
- Mobility rule: any institution worldwide
- Period of funding: up to 5 years (100,000 CHF per year)
- The project must depart from mainstream research.
Schlumberger Faculty for the Future (women from low- and middle-income countries)
- Period of funding: up to 40,000 USD per year
National schemes of your home country
- Many countries fund postdocs abroad (for example SNSF, JSPS, Fulbright). Check what is available to you and contact us early.
