Congratulations to the e-conversion 2.0 Team!

Once again, excellent! e-conversion secures further excellence funding.

We are very pleased that e-conversion 2.0 has been selected as one of the 70 DFG-Exzellenzcluster and will receive a new, seven-year funding period commencing in 2026. This prestigious accolade recognises the consortium’s visionary approach in renewable energy research and its commitment to translating fundamental insights into pioneering technologies, in line with the Scientific Year 2025 “Future Energy”.

Our partners at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU) form the backbone of this success. With their extensive expertise at the intersections of physics, chemistry, and materials science, they strengthen Munich’s position as a vibrant hub for the cutting-edge research of energy materials and next-generation concepts.

Professor Bettina Lotsch, co-speaker of e-conversion 2.0, encapsulates the spirit of the new funding phase succinctly: e-conversion 2.0 is redefining energy research: “By harnessing sustainable materials and data-driven technologies, we accelerate innovation and develop next-generation energy systems designed for a flexible energy future.”

Building on this momentum, the cluster will further deepen its interdisciplinary approach in order to eliminate the critical bottlenecks at material limits.

Professor Lotsch emphasises: “Through the networking of researchers across disciplinary boundaries and the exploration of fundamental mechanisms of energy conversion, we are advancing transformative energy technologies such as solar batteries, photocatalysis in the dark, and dynamically regenerable catalysts.”

We congratulate all the involved researchers, students, technical staff, and our Munich partners on this outstanding achievement. Together, we look forward with anticipation to developing sustainable, highly efficient energy solutions that enable a flexible and resilient future.
